Our Mission

The Catawba Indian Nation exercises its full sovereignty, achieves self-determination, and advances Nation rebuilding by establishing a diverse and vibrant economy grounded in cultural values, based on key assets, and leverages strategic partnerships that foster Native entrepreneurship, encourage innovation, attract capital investment, and create employment opportunities that improves the quality of life and overall well-being of the Catawba people.

Goals and Objectives

A series of goals and objectives have been defined to advance the Catawba Indian Nation’s quality of life. The following topics have been identified as of high importance and goals and objectives have been organized by each:

    Goal: Between 2019 and 2025, the Catawba Nation Government will provide accountability and transparency to its citizens and allow for broad participation in the development of policy. The Catawba Nation Government will also ensure effective decision-making for the maximum possible benefit of the Nation.

    Cultural Heritage

    Goal: Between 2019 and 2025, the Catawba Indian Nation will invest in cultural development activities that lead to economic growth and self-sufficiency for Tribal citizens, expands Tribal citizens’ cultural knowledge, restore the fluent use of the Catawba language, enhances cultural experiences and raises awareness of Native and non-Native people, and fosters Native entrepreneurship by building capacity, providing technical assistance, and creating access to markets for Catawba cultural products and services that remain authentic to Catawba culture, without exploitation and commodification.

    Economic Development

    Goal: Between 2019 and 2025, the Catawba Nation will be a major contributor to the tribal, local, and regional economies through initiatives that create quality jobs and expand revenues, thereby benefiting both the Catawba Nation and the broader community.

    Education

    Goal: Between 2019 and 2025, the Catawba Nation will develop an education continuum that ensures that all Catawba are afforded opportunities for personal growth, cultural knowledge, and academic excellence thus maximizing their chances for success in a globally competitive world.

    Environmental Services

    Goal: Between 2019 and 2025, the Catawba Nation will oversee the protection of human health and environment including water, land, air, and other natural resources by providing services to the tribe such as safe drinking water, sanitary sewage disposal, solid waster management and recycling, monitoring and protection of the Catawba River, environmental response for hazardous spills, and emergency management services.

    Family Services

    Goal: Between 2019 and 2025, the Catawba Nation will provide direct services and work closely with our partner agencies to support Tribal citizens and families to overcome family and economic challenges by using an integrated system approach; to foster a spirit of independence, personal responsibility, and self-sufficiency; to ensure personal safety; and to promote healthy families and strong communities.

    Housing

    Goal: Between 2019, and 2025, the Catawba Nation will develop programs which provide safe, reasonable, and affordable housing for Tribal citizens within an environment that promotes a sense of community, strong families, and the spirit of the individual.

    Job Training & Development

    Goal: Between 2019, and 2025, the Catawba Nation will invest in tribal citizens so we can advance a culture of education and knowledge while developing sound leadership to build a skilled workforce with the capacity to meet the evolving demands of the 21st century workplace.

    Justice

    Goal: Between 2019, and 2025, the Catawba Nation will create sovereignty for the tribe by finding opportunities for self-governance through developing tribal police and court programs as well as aiding victims of crime. The Justice Services Division will provide culturally significant programs to engage the Catawba community.

    Land & Resource Management

    Goal: Between 2019, and 2025, the Catawba Nation will develop programs which provide safe, reasonable, and affordable housing for Tribal citizens within an environment that promotes a sense of community, strong families, and the spirit of the individual.

    Senior Services

    Goal: Between 2019, and 2025, the Catawba Nation will develop programs which provide safe, reasonable, and affordable housing for Tribal citizens within an environment that promotes a sense of community, strong families, and the spirit of the individual.

    Transportation

    Goal: Between 2019, and 2025, the Catawba Nation will develop programs which provide safe, reasonable, and affordable housing for Tribal citizens within an environment that promotes a sense of community, strong families, and the spirit of the individual.
